Kerr breaks mile world record in London

Team GB's Josh Kerr set a new mile world record of 3:42.66 at the London Diamond League event on Saturday, breaking Moroccan Hicham El Guerrouj's 27-year-old record of 3:43.13. The 28-year-old Edinburgh athlete, an Olympic 1500m silver medallist and 2023 world champion, had publicly announced his record attempt in March under the name 'Project 222'. Paris 2024 1500m bronze medallist Yared Nuguse finished second in 3:45.69, with Briton Jake Heyward third in a personal-best 3:46.73.
