Kerr breaks world mile record with 3:42.66 in London
Great Britain's Josh Kerr broke the world mile record with a time of 3:42.66 at the Novuna London Athletics Meet on July 18, 2026, becoming the first athlete to run the mile in under 3:43. He improved on Hicham El Guerrouj's previous world record of 3:43.13, which had stood since 1999 in Rome. Kerr, the 2023 world 1500m champion and two-time Olympic medallist, achieved the feat in the Emsley Carr Mile as part of his self-described 'Project 222', targeting sub-222 seconds for the distance.
