Kerr Headlines Novuna London Athletics Meet as Mile World Record Shattered

Josh Kerr shattered the 27-year-old men's mile world record at the Novuna London Athletics Meet, running 3:42.66 in front of a sold-out crowd of 60,000 at the London Stadium. He broke the previous record of 3:43.13, set by Hicham El Guerrouj in 1999, passing 800 metres in 1:50.63 before taking the lead as pacers stepped off. A jubilant Kerr said he knew he had a 3:42 in him and described the achievement as leaving his mark on the sport as a British athlete.
