Khachanov advances to US Open SFs after Blockx retires

Karen Khachanov advanced to his third Grand Slam semi-final at the 2024 US Open after opponent Alexander Blockx retired due to a rib injury early in the third set, with Khachanov leading 6-2, 7-5, 3-2. The 21-year-old Belgian had been struggling with the injury throughout the tournament, including during his fourth-round win over Francisco Cerundolo. Khachanov, seeded 28th, will face either top seed Alexander Zverev or Botic van de Zandschulp in the semi-finals on Friday.
