Knicks make unfortunate NBA history not seen from defending champion in 15 years

The New York Knicks, led by Jalen Brunson, have made unfortunate NBA history as defending champions, joining the 2011-12 Dallas Mavericks led by Dirk Nowitzki in a negative record not seen from a defending champion in 15 years. The specific record ties the Knicks to the Mavericks' disappointing title defense from that season. This marks a historically poor stretch for New York following their championship reign.
