Lafreniere set for next step toward future roster spot with Oilers

Tommy Lafreniere, a 19-year-old forward prospect selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the third round (No. 83) of the 2025 NHL Draft, will transition from the Kamloops Blazers of the WHL to Western Michigan University for the upcoming season. After recording 77 points (41 goals, 36 assists) in 67 regular-season games last year as Kamloops' third leading scorer, Lafreniere chose college hockey to develop physically against older competition. The Oilers support the move, viewing it as an important step in his progression toward an NHL roster spot.
