Lando Norris takes blame for botched strategy call as McLaren hopes go BOOM
Lando Norris has taken personal responsibility for the decision to start the Canadian Grand Prix on intermediate tyres, a call that quickly backfired as the track dried ahead of the 4pm start at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Norris retired from the race on lap 40 with a gearbox issue, while teammate Oscar Piastri finished outside the points in P11 after a collision with Alex Albon that resulted in a broken rear wing and a 10-second penalty. The disastrous outing leaves McLaren with fewer combined race laps completed than struggling Aston Martin across the fifth round of the 2026 F1 season.
