Las Vegas GP settles lawsuit over 2023 drain-cover chaos

Formula 1's Las Vegas GP and parent company Liberty Media have agreed to pay more than $3 million to settle a class-action lawsuit arising from the chaotic opening night of the inaugural 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix. A loose water-valve cover damaged multiple cars during first practice, caused a roughly two-and-a-half-hour delay, and led to spectators being ejected before the resumed session. The lawsuit had originally sought $5 billion when filed in 2023, with part of it dismissed in February 2025 before an amended complaint led to the final settlement, in which neither party admitted wrongdoing.
