Late mechanical issue costs Marcus Armstrong shot at first IndyCar win
Marcus Armstrong, driving the #66 Meyer Shank Racing Honda, lost a likely victory at the XPEL Grand Prix at Road America on June 21, 2026, after a mechanical failure forced him to retire with four laps remaining. The 25-year-old New Zealander had led for 14 laps and held a 2.5-second advantage over Arrow McLaren's Christian Lundgaard before his car began to slow and emit smoke. Lundgaard subsequently overtook Armstrong to take the lead in the 55-lap race, which featured five caution periods.
