LeBron James is leaving the Los Angeles Lakers after six seasons, ending his partnership with the franchise without the Hollywood ending of retiring as a Laker. James, who will play a 24th NBA season with a different team, had joined the Lakers in 2018 as an unrestricted free agent. Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka had expressed a desire for James to retire in Los Angeles, but that outcome did not materialize.
