Legendary announcer René Cárdenas, the first Spanish-language broadcaster in MLB history, dead at 96

René Cárdenas, the first Spanish-language broadcaster in MLB history, died on Sunday at the age of 96. Cárdenas made history when he was hired by the Los Angeles Dodgers shortly after they moved from Brooklyn to Los Angeles, marking the first time a Spanish-language announcer called games for an MLB team. In 1959, he was also part of the first Spanish-language broadcast of the World Series, and he went on to call games for three different franchises over his lengthy career.
