Lionel Messi has been named MLS Player of the Matchday for Matchday eight after scoring twice in Inter Miami's 3-2 victory at Colorado Rapids. He opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 18th minute and struck the winner with a spectacular finish in the 80th minute, bringing his tally to seven goals in seven MLS games this season. It is his 14th career MLS Player of the Matchday award and his second this season, leaving him level with Jeff Cunningham and behind only Landon Donovan's record of 19.
