Leonard signs 8-year, $84 million contract Capitals
The Washington Capitals have signed 21-year-old forward Ryan Leonard to an eight-year, $84 million contract extension, beginning next season with an average annual value of $10.5 million. Leonard, a first-round pick (No. 8) in the 2023 NHL Draft, recorded 45 points (20 goals, 25 assists) in 75 games during his first full NHL season in 2025-26, ranking third among rookies in power-play points and 5-on-5 goals. General manager Chris Patrick praised Leonard's work ethic and development potential, expressing confidence in his long-term growth with the organization.
