Lewis Hamilton details life-changing moment he secured F1 future

Lewis Hamilton has recalled the life-changing moment McLaren boss Ron Dennis informed him on the grid at the 2006 Italian Grand Prix that he would partner Fernando Alonso for the 2007 F1 season, now 20 years ago. Hamilton had just won the GP2 title on his first attempt after a contract dispute in 2005 nearly cost him his McLaren junior deal, with COO Martin Whitmarsh tearing up his contract before Hamilton re-signed six weeks later. The seven-time World Champion went on to make his F1 debut in 2007 alongside Alonso at McLaren.
