Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur confirmed that Lewis Hamilton retired from the 2026 Spanish Grand Prix due to a brake pedal issue with his SF-26 car. An attempted remote fix from the pit wall failed to resolve the long brake pedal problem, leading Ferrari to withdraw Hamilton from the race on safety grounds. Earlier in the race, Hamilton had gone wheel-to-wheel with Max Verstappen at the start, with Verstappen told to return the position after cutting through the run-off area.
