At the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, Lilian Odira defeated Olympic 800m gold medallist Keely Hodgkinson for the second time, with world champion Odira getting the better of the race despite chaotic early pacing. Pacemaker Paris Peoples went through the 400m split in a remarkably fast 53.58, far ahead of the planned 55.5 target, disrupting Hodgkinson's world record ambitions. Hodgkinson is targeting a world 800m record attempt at the London Diamond League on July 18, with a goal time of 1:53.50.
