LSU OF Curiel drafted 5th overall by Pirates

The Pittsburgh Pirates selected LSU outfielder Derek Curiel with the fifth overall pick in the 2026 MLB Draft on Saturday. Curiel, ranked No. 12 among MLB Pipeline's Draft prospects, is the first college position player Pittsburgh has chosen with its top pick since selecting Henry Davis in 2021. He is also the first LSU player drafted in 2026, continuing the program's recent tradition of top picks that includes Paul Skenes, Dylan Crews, and Kade Anderson.
