Markéta Vondroušová suspended for 4 years after refusing doping test due to stress reaction
Markéta Vondroušová, the 2023 Wimbledon champion, has been handed a four-year suspension by an independent tribunal after refusing a doping test at her home on December 3, 2025. The 26-year-old Czech, who holds a career-high ranking of world No. 6, was charged by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) in February after failing to provide a sample to a Doping Control Officer during an out-of-competition test. Vondroušová argued that an 'acute stress reaction' impaired her decision-making, but the tribunal found no compelling justification for the refusal and imposed the maximum penalty for the offence.
