Marta Kostyuk was out of tennis patience. She found it in her hardest moments
Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk, 23, nearly quit the sport last December after hitting what she described as 'rock bottom' following a loss in an exhibition match against compatriot Elina Svitolina in India. Five months later, Kostyuk has won back-to-back titles at the Rouen Open and the Madrid Open (a WTA 1000 event), tripling her career total of WTA titles in the process. The turnaround has been driven by mental and emotional work with her coach Sandra Zaniewska to separate her self-worth from her on-court results.
