Matchroom Boxing sign former heavyweight champion who beat Anthony Joshua: "Going to make a big statement"

Matchroom Boxing and Eddie Hearn have signed former heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr, who famously upset Anthony Joshua in June 2019 to win the heavyweight title. Ruiz, who lost the belts in the immediate rematch and has only fought three times since — defeating Chris Arreola and Luis Ortiz before drawing with Jarrell Miller in August 2024 — has been out of the ring for two years. The Mexican heavyweight expressed ambitions to become a two-time world champion under the Matchroom promotional banner.
