Matt Freese, USMNT's Harvard-educated goalkeeper, poised to start World Cup opener vs. Paraguay

Matt Freese, a Harvard-educated goalkeeper from Pennsylvania, is expected to start for the USMNT in their 2026 World Cup Group D opener against Paraguay at SoFi Stadium on Friday, June 13. Freese has served as coach Mauricio Pochettino's primary goalkeeper for approximately one year, most recently playing a full 90 minutes in last weekend's final warm-up match. The game will mark the first U.S. World Cup home match since 1994 and the biggest moment of Freese's seven-year professional career.
