Max Burgin storms to 800m victory at the Diamond League in Rabat
British 800m runner Max Burgin, 24, won the Diamond League race in Rabat, Morocco on May 31, clocking 1:42.98 to beat Olympic champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi, who finished over half a second behind in 1:43.56. The performance has raised expectations that Burgin could challenge Seb Coe's long-standing British record of 1:41.73, set in Florence in 1981 and unbroken for 45 years. Burgin, who recorded a personal best of 1:42.29 when finishing sixth at the Tokyo World Championships last September, led from the back straight and built a commanding lead over the world-class field.
