McIlroy blasts DeChambeau's Open Championship antics in rare golf rivalry
Rory McIlroy publicly criticized Bryson DeChambeau following a rules violation at the Open Championship, where DeChambeau received a two-shot penalty on Friday after being seen trampling grass around his ball on the par-4 5th hole, which improved his lie. McIlroy stated he is 'not particularly fond' of DeChambeau, calling much of his behavior 'performative' and 'for attention.' McIlroy also condemned DeChambeau for holding 'the tournament hostage' during the lengthy back-and-forth with R&A officials, while agreeing the two-shot penalty was justified.
