Lionel Messi scored his 99th Inter Miami goal in all competitions to give the home side a 2-1 lead in the 62nd minute on Saturday night, but Nashville SC striker Sam Surridge equalized with a brace — his first in the fourth minute and a stoppage-time equalizer — to secure a draw in the top-of-the-table Eastern Conference clash at Nu Stadium. It was Messi's 17th goal in 14 games against Nashville, the MLS team that has conceded more goals to him than any other side. Despite Messi's individual brilliance, Inter Miami under head coach Guillermo Hoyos have been described as terribly inconsistent this season.
