Mets lose rotation anchor as Clay Holmes suffers fractured fibula on line drive
New York Mets starting pitcher Clay Holmes fractured his right fibula on Friday after being struck by a 111.1 mph line drive off the bat of Spencer Jones during the top of the fourth inning. Holmes, who had posted an impressive 1.86 ERA through his first eight starts of the season and was considered an All-Star candidate, will be sidelined indefinitely. The injury is a significant blow to the last-place Mets, as Holmes had been one of the team's standout performers in his second season as a starter after transitioning from a bullpen role with the Yankees.
