Mexico end World Cup knockout drought with last-32 win over Ecuador in Azteca cauldron
Mexico ended a 39-year World Cup knockout stage drought by defeating Ecuador in a last-32 match at the Azteca stadium, their first such victory since 1986. Javier Aguirre's side delivered a dominant first-half performance to dismantle Ecuador convincingly. Mexico will next face England in the last 16 on Sunday, if England defeat the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
