Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy has asked 42-year-old quarterback Aaron Rodgers to play approximately 30 to 40 plays across the team's first two preseason games, against the Packers and Jets — Rodgers' two former teams. Rodgers confirmed the request to The Athletic's Mike Silver, saying he agreed to play if McCarthy wants him to, despite not being enthusiastic about it. The last time Rodgers took substantial preseason snaps was in 2018 under McCarthy in Green Bay, and he saw zero preseason action in 2024 under former Steelers coach Mike Tomlin.
