Mirra Andreeva’s Wimbledon hopes dashed by resurgent Krejcikova
Barbora Krejcikova, the 2024 Wimbledon women's singles champion, defeated 19-year-old French Open winner Mirra Andreeva 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 in a third-round match on Centre Court on Wednesday. The result ended Andreeva's bid to join Maureen Connolly, Evonne Goolagong, Chris Evert, and Steffi Graf as the only women in the Open era to win both Roland Garros and Wimbledon before their 20th birthday. Andreeva acknowledged the loss would 'take some time' to get over, despite earning praise for her fighting qualities throughout the match.
