MLB eyes shorter regular season, expanding division series to best-of-7

Major League Baseball has proposed shortening the regular season from 162 to 154 games starting in 2029, as part of ongoing collective bargaining negotiations with players. The proposal also includes expanding the division series format from its current structure to a best-of-seven series. These changes represent significant structural adjustments to the MLB postseason and regular season calendar.
