MLB Home Run Derby to ditch clock, revive swing-based system: Sources
MLB's Home Run Derby will abandon its timed format in favor of a swing-based system, with hitters receiving 20 swings in the first round and 15 in each of the final two rounds. If a batter hits a home run on their last swing of a round, they earn additional swings until they make an out. The event, held at Citizens Bank Park, will be broadcast on Netflix for the first time, and the last time the Derby used a swing-based format was 2014.
