MLS NEXT Pro introduces Play-in Round for 2026 Playoffs

MLS NEXT Pro announced on September 1, 2026, a new Play-in Round for its 2026 Playoffs, which will determine the last two teams to qualify for the postseason — a first in league history. The fan-favorite Pick-Your-Opponent format will return for the first two rounds of the Playoffs. Final regular-season seedings will be decided on Decision Day, September 20, with all 30 teams playing simultaneously across the Eastern and Western Conferences.
