Monaco Diamond League: Emmanuel Wanyonyi takes the 1000m world record

Kenyan runner Emmanuel Wanyonyi broke the 1000m world record at the Monaco Diamond League on Friday, clocking 2:11.83 to surpass fellow Kenyan Noah Ngeny's 27-year-old record of 2:11.96 set in 1999. Englishman Jake Wightman finished second in a personal best of 2:12.77, while Algeria's Djamel Sedjati took third in 2:13.94, also a personal best. Two pacers from France and Poland helped set the record pace before dropping out at 600m and 800m respectively.
