Morrissey says he loves ‘being a Jet,’ discusses Hellebuyck trade request
Winnipeg Jets defenseman Josh Morrissey expressed disappointment over Connor Hellebuyck's trade request, which was publicly revealed on August 27 when Hellebuyck stated he had privately requested a move 'several months ago.' Morrissey, who has played all 11 NHL seasons alongside Hellebuyck since both debuted in 2015-16, said the situation is personally difficult but acknowledged it is part of the business. Hellebuyck is a three-time Vezina Trophy winner (2020, 2024, 2025), a 2025 Hart Trophy recipient, and helped the United States win gold at the 2026 Winter Olympics, with Jets training camp opening this week amid uncertainty over his future.
