NBA docks Clippers 5 first-round picks, $30 million fine after Kawhi Leonard investigation
The NBA has handed the LA Clippers the largest punishment in league history following a year-long investigation into salary cap circumvention related to Kawhi Leonard. The Clippers will forfeit five first-round draft picks (2029β2033) and pay a $30 million fine, while owner Steve Ballmer has been suspended for one year for knowingly helping Leonard obtain off-court income opportunities through a deal with company Aspiration. Investigators found the Clippers attempted to circumvent NBA rules by arranging business introductions for Leonard, a justification the league rejected.
