Neeraj Chopra out of Asian Games after ankle injury ends 2026 athletics season

Indian javelin throw star Neeraj Chopra, 28, has confirmed he will miss the remainder of the 2026 athletics season after suffering a ligament tear in his ankle during training. The injury occurred shortly after he achieved a season-best throw of 88.05m to finish second at the Lausanne Diamond League. Chopra will be absent from the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, where he was set to defend his title as a two-time champion, as well as the Diamond League Final.
