New study reveals widespread signs of brain trauma among former NFL players
A new study published on August 25, 2026, found that at least one in four former NFL players shows signs of CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy) at the time of death. The research examined the brains of former professional players post-mortem, as CTE can only be diagnosed through autopsy. PBS NewsHour's Amna Nawaz discussed the findings with Dr. Chris Nowinski of the Concussion and CTE Foundation, who co-authored the study.
