New Zealand defeated France 34-32 in the opening match of the inaugural Nations Championship, played in Christchurch. Will Jordan scored twice, in the 7th and 71st minutes, to give new All Blacks head coach Dave Rennie a winning start. The match was a nine-try thriller, with France's tries coming from Penaud, Hastoy, Attisogbe, and Jalibert.
