NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman on passing of John Garrett

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman released a statement on April 28, 2026, mourning the sudden passing of John Garrett, a former goaltender who played 13 seasons in the WHA and NHL before transitioning to broadcasting in 1986. Garrett spent nearly four decades as a hockey analyst, most notably two decades with the Vancouver Canucks, as well as work for the Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, and national broadcaster Sportsnet.
