NHL EDGE stats: Kreider signing complements Canadiens' young core
The Montreal Canadiens signed veteran forward Chris Kreider to a one-year contract on September 12, adding a 35-year-old power forward to complement their young core, which remains the fifth-youngest team in the NHL with an average age of 25.68. Kreider, who set a career high of 52 goals with the New York Rangers in 2021-22 and scored at least 30 goals in three straight seasons, recorded 22 goals last season with the Anaheim Ducks along with eight power-play goals and 17 power-play points. Montreal, which reached the Eastern Conference Final last season, is viewed as a contender to reach the Stanley Cup Final this season with Kreider's veteran presence bolstering their roster.
