NHL free agency opened at noon ET Wednesday, highlighted by Mason Marchment signing a five-year, $6.75 million-per-year deal with the San Jose Sharks, the team his late father played for and worked with before his death in July 2022. Other notable signings include Ilya Mikheyev joining the Tampa Bay Lightning on a four-year, $3.85 million deal, Jacob Trouba signing with the Sharks for $8.25 million AAV over four years, and Daniil Tarasov agreeing to a one-year, $2 million contract with the Detroit Red Wings. The Sharks are also reportedly pursuing a trade for Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse.
