NHL Status Report: Barzal to travel with Islanders, not ruled out for opener

New York Islanders forward Mathew Barzal will travel with the team to Toronto and has not been ruled out for their season opener against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. ET, despite missing training camp due to inflammation from a prior injury. The Islanders also signed 28-year-old defenseman Logan Stanley to a one-year contract; Stanley recorded 26 points in 76 games last season split between the Buffalo Sabres and Winnipeg Jets. Additionally, forward Bryan Rust is being evaluated for an upper-body injury, while several players including Vitek Vanecek were assigned or placed on waivers.
