NHL Status Report: Rust activated by Penguins, could make season debut
Bryan Rust was activated from injured reserve by the Pittsburgh Penguins and made his season debut against the Washington Capitals on Wednesday, having missed the first three games with an upper-body injury sustained in a preseason game against the Buffalo Sabres on September 26. Capitals defenseman Matt Roy did not play in Washington's home opener against the Penguins on Wednesday and remains day to day after being injured during a 3-1 loss at Tampa Bay on Saturday. Penguins forward Andrei Kuzmenko has been granted non-roster status by the NHL following the death of his father Alexander on September 24, and while he has rejoined the team and skated in recent games, he will not play on the ongoing road trip.
