Ohtani (knee) returns to lineup for opener vs. Red Sox

Shohei Ohtani returned to the Dodgers' lineup as the leadoff designated hitter for Friday's series opener against the Red Sox, after being held out Thursday due to renewed soreness in his left knee. Ohtani has been managing left knee inflammation since June 11 and has not pitched since July 3, also dealing with right biceps discomfort that has further delayed his return to the mound. In 14 starts this season, Ohtani holds a 1.79 ERA with 95 strikeouts in 85⅔ innings, with the Dodgers hopeful he can pitch in meaningful late-season and postseason games.
