Oilers add Andersen, hire Babcock in bid to get over hump

The Edmonton Oilers have made several key offseason moves ahead of the 2026-27 NHL season, most notably signing 36-year-old Stanley Cup-winning goalie Frederik Andersen to a one-year deal and hiring a new head coach in Mike Babcock. Andersen, who won the Cup with the Carolina Hurricanes, posted a 1.89 goals-against average and .910 save percentage in 16 playoff starts last season. The Oilers also signed defenseman Ryan Shea to a five-year contract and acquired Shakir Mukhamadullin from the San Jose Sharks in a trade involving Darnell Nurse, after finishing 41-30-11 and losing in the Western Conference First Round in 2025-26.
