Olav Kooij claims Tour de France stage five with Tourmalet test looming large

Dutch rider Olav Kooij, 24, won stage five of the 2026 Tour de France in Pau, claiming the first sprint finish of this year's race ahead of German rider Max Kanter of XDA Astana in second place. Kooij, who rides for Decathlon CMA CGM and previously won three stages at the 2025 Tour of Britain, described the victory as particularly meaningful following a difficult spring season. Norway's Torstein Træen retained the overall leader's yellow jersey after the stage.
