OMEGA Moment of the Meeting: Wanyonyi’s world record
Kenyan runner Emmanuel Wanyonyi set a world record in the 1000m at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Monaco on Friday, clocking 2:11.83 in his first-ever race over the distance. The time bettered Noah Ngeny's previous world record by 0.13 seconds, a mark that had stood for 27 years since 1999. Wanyonyi, the reigning Olympic, world and Diamond League champion over 800m, was pushed throughout by Britain's Jake Wightman before pulling away in the final 200 metres.
