Pep Guardiola ‘threatened to quit 100 times’ as Manchester City manager

Manchester City chair Khaldoon al-Mubarak has revealed that Pep Guardiola threatened to quit as manager approximately 100 times during his tenure, comparing the Catalan's repeated empty threats to the fable of The Boy Who Cried Wolf. Guardiola, who left City last month after 10 years in charge, led the club to 17 major honours and signed four contract extensions in 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2024, despite being hesitant each time. Mubarak described himself as Guardiola's 'psychiatrist' and credited himself as instrumental in persuading the manager to stay on each occasion.
