Pereira fumes over ‘illegal shots’ after Gane’s interim UFC heavyweight title win

Cyril Gane of France defeated Alex Pereira of Brazil in the second round to win the interim UFC heavyweight title on Sunday, stopping the fight at 1:27 of the round after a jab and hammer fist combination. Pereira subsequently accused Gane of landing illegal elbows to the back of the head during a ground sequence, claiming the illegal shots hindered his ability to recover. Pereira also criticized referee Herb Dean, who defended his decisions in a video, noting that rules regarding the back of the head differ between MMA and boxing.
