PGA Tour approves competitive changes, featuring promotion and relegation

The PGA Tour has approved a major competitive overhaul set to take effect in 2028, splitting the tour into a 'Championship Series' and 'Challenger Series' with promotion and relegation between the two tiers. CEO Brian Rolapp announced the changes on Tuesday at TPC River Highlands ahead of the Travelers Championship, following approval by both the PGA Tour Policy Board and Enterprises Board on Monday. The Championship Series will feature 120-player fields, 36-hole cuts, and $20 million purse events, replacing the small-field, no-cut signature events.
