Pierre Gasly Stuns F1 with Maiden Pole at Monza
Pierre Gasly secured his first ever Formula 1 pole position at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza on his 191st grand prix start, ending the second-longest wait for a pole in F1 history. Driving for Alpine, he posted a lap time of 1:21.786s, beating Mercedes' George Russell by 0.060 seconds. The result also marked Alpine's first pole position in 17 years, since the team competed as Renault in 2009, and came just one day after Gasly lost a Monaco podium finish on appeal.
